Blue Food Innovation Hub (BFIH) Validation Workshop.

The Blue Food Innovation Hub (BFIH) is a strategic initiative led by the Chamber of Aquaculture Ghana to accelerate innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth in Ghana’s aquaculture sector. The Hub was conceived to support businesses, researchers, and industry stakeholders across the aquaculture value chain to develop solutions that increase productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and strengthen the country’s blue economy.

On 11 December 2025, the Chamber organised the second stakeholder workshop, a validation session aimed at refining the draft roadmap and strategy for the establishment of the Hub. The workshop brought together key actors from government, industry, and academia to review the draft strategy and governance framework designed to guide the implementation of the Blue Food Innovation Hub. Participants examined the proposed roadmap and provided inputs to strengthen the design of the Hub. Stakeholders emphasised the need for the initiative to prioritise inclusive growth by working closely with fish farmers and aquaculture enterprises, offering targeted training, and promoting the adoption of adaptive technologies that can improve efficiency across the value chain. Addressing participants, Chief Director at the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Marian Kpakpah, highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting the initiative. She noted that new innovations were being rolled out to complement the work of the Hub, particularly in addressing post-harvest losses in the aquaculture sector. According to her, strengthening innovation and value addition in fish production is critical to boosting local output and reducing Ghana’s reliance on imported fish.

Chairman of the Chamber of Aquaculture Ghana, Dr. Enim Somuah, added that the Blue Food Innovation Hub has the potential to transform the aquaculture sector by creating a platform that supports innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration among industry stakeholders. The establishment of the Blue Food Innovation Hub is expected to serve as a catalyst for modernising aquaculture practices in Ghana. By promoting innovation, improving yields, and reducing losses along the value chain, the Hub aims to strengthen the aquaculture industry, enhance food security, and safeguard livelihoods.
